Ibby Studio

We makewhat people watch

Since 2019 we have made film, social, brand and interactive work out of Kinshasa and London — for founders, labels and institutions with something worth showing. One team, from the first conversation to the final export.

Every one of these started as a conversation about what the thing was actually for.

    2026

Our own game, designed and built in-house — art, engineering and sound. One thumb, endless traffic, and a soundtrack recorded with musicians in Matonge. Android first, because that is where the players are.

    2025

We designed the waveform orb and its listening, thinking and speaking states, the live transcript, barge-in that cuts a reply mid-sentence, and the hand-off back to text. Motion covers the latency instead of hiding it.

    2025

Written in HyperFrames, HeyGen's open-source framework: each scene is HTML, timed with data-start and data-duration on a single GSAP timeline. The 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 cuts render from one source, and a copy change re-renders in CI.

Angled close-up of a video-editing timeline, its clips stacked in green, pink and orange bands.

    2025

One six-minute film, six grower portraits and a vertical series that ran through the season. Shot for the edit, so the cutdowns were planned on the slope rather than salvaged afterwards.

    2024

A logotype drawn from the joints themselves, a type system that survives a stencil and a spray gun, and an archive site that finally puts four decades of drawings in front of buyers.

    2023

Static, offline-tolerant and editable from a phone by a team of three. Line-up, tickets and travel held up on the morning the programme dropped, on 2G, with no server to scale.

Silhouetted hands raised into a heart shape against warm stage lights at a night concert.

Services · 4 disciplines

What we do.

Four disciplines, one team. Most projects use two or three of them together.

  • Make the thing people actually watch

Documentary, brand film and product work. Directed, shot and cut in-house, with the cutdowns planned from the shot list rather than salvaged in the edit.

    • Brand & documentary film
    • Product and launch films
    • Direction and treatment
    • Colour and sound
  • Feed a channel without feeding it filler

Content built for the way people actually scroll: vertical-first, subtitled by default, and enough of it to keep a channel alive for a quarter.

    • Vertical series
    • Quarterly content batches
    • Captions and localisation
    • Channel strategy
  • Build an identity that survives contact

Names, marks, type systems and the rules that keep them honest six months later. Built as a working kit, not a 90-page PDF nobody opens.

    • Naming and positioning
    • Logotype and marks
    • Type and colour systems
    • Guidelines and asset kit
  • Ship a site that holds the work

Sites, interfaces and the odd game. Fast, accessible, built so your team can change the copy without calling us — and so the states nobody demos still work.

Process · 4 steps · 6–10 weeks typical

How a project runs.

The same four steps every time, whether it is a six-minute film, a logotype or a shipped build.

01

Read the room

Half a day, everyone in the room. We work out what the thing is for, who it has to reach and what would count as it working. You leave with a one-page brief and a number.

02

Draw it first

Treatment, boards, a schedule and a shot list you can actually argue with. Nothing goes into production until you have seen the shape of it on paper.

03

Make it

Small crew, real locations, long days. We build for the edit — the cutdowns, the vertical version and the states nobody demos are planned in, not scavenged afterwards.

04

Hand it over

Two rounds of notes, colour, sound, and every deliverable exported to spec. You get the masters, the project files, the repository and the fonts. It is your work.

About · Est. 2019 · Kinshasa / London

Who you would actually be working with.

Twelve projects a year, three languages, two cities — and a producer who answers the phone.

We would rather make one thing properly than five things quickly.

We started in 2019 making documentary work for founders who could not explain what they had built. The studio grew outwards from the edit: the film, the cutdowns, the identity around it, the site it lands on, and lately the product itself — interfaces, prototypes, a game we shipped ourselves.

Directors, editors, designers and engineers, working in English, French and Lingala out of Kinshasa and London. We take on roughly a dozen projects a year. That is a deliberate number: it is how many we can be present for.

  • Portrait of a man looking straight into the camera in soft, directional daylight.
They shipped the hardest part first. Voice Mode went from a mood board to something we could hold in our hands in five weeks, and the interruption behaviour is still the thing people mention.
Nsimba Lelo – Head of Product, Kasi
  • Profile portrait of a woman turned towards a window, lit by warm late-afternoon light.
We changed the price twice in launch week. Both times the film was back, in three ratios, before the end of the day. Nobody re-opened an edit.
Aurélie Mbaya – Head of Growth, Nzila
  • Outdoor portrait of a woman with braided hair and gold earrings at golden hour.
Nine days on the slopes with three of them and no fuss. The growers recognised themselves in the film, which is the only review that matters to us.
Papy Kalonji – Director, Kivu Coffee Union
  • Portrait of a young man in a denim shirt, half his face in shadow against a dark backdrop.
Forty years of drawings were in a cupboard. Now they are the business. The mark came out of our own joints, which nobody else thought to look at.
Grace Ilunga – Founder, Atelier Ngoma

Say hey.

A few lines is plenty. What you are making, who it has to reach, and when it has to be live.

We answer every inquiry within two working days, and we will tell you honestly if we are the wrong studio for it.

Budgets welcome but not required. A range is enough to start.
